Twelve defendants made their first appearance in federal court in St. Paul Tuesday on conspiracy charges that they impeded federal law enforcement officers.
About a hundred people gathered outside the St. Paul courthouse to protest the arrests. At one point, several people tried to hold open a door so their chanting could be heard inside. After attempts to close it failed, U.S. Marshals pepper-sprayed the group and deployed aerosol grenades.

On Tuesday, the Minneapolis City Council had the first public hearing on possibly repealing the adult bathhouse ban. Four residents spoke in favor of moving forward with the ordinance, including three members of a local sex worker rights and safety organization. Council members debated whether the ban helps or hurts the LGBTQ community. Jason Chavez, the only out LGBTQ member of the council, said the ban is rooted in homophobia, not safety.
