DFL U.S. Senate hopefuls Congresswoman Angie Craig and Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan will debate live on MPR News Monday. With about two weeks left until the primary election on Aug. 11, Flanagan and Craig will have their second debate of this primary season.
The two prominent DFLers have been battling it out through ads on TV and online, as have their backers. MPR politics editor Brian Bakst will moderate the debate, which begins at 11 a.m. and will be carried live on air and streamed online.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says wildfire resources might be reallocated to other parts of the state if dry conditions persist. But the state agency says it would not take away from fire response in the northeast.
A Washington County hospital was fined more than $15,000 for improper disposal of infectious waste. Last December, Lakeview Memorial Hospital in Stillwater failed to separate, label and properly store its untreated infectious waste before sending it to a waste management facility. Infectious waste poses a threat to human health and the environment due to its biological properties. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency determined that the infectious waste load from the hospital contained items contaminated with blood.

Individuals and groups in Minnesota can now donate unused, unexpired veterinary drugs to benefit animals in need. The new law went into effect earlier in July. The greatest needs are for preventative medications. These includes drugs that treat heartworm, flea and tickborne diseases.
The city of Albert Lea is reconsidering a proposed cannabis dispensary after the Minnesota Court of Appeals ruled it wrongly denied the business. The appeals court ruled the city acted arbitrarily when it rejected a registration application last year from Jacob Schlichter, the owner of The Smoking Tree. His business was the first non-tribal dispensary to get licensed in Minnesota.
