An ICE agent charged with shooting and wounding a man — and then lying about it — during the immigration crackdown in Minneapolis was released from a Texas jail Thursday. That's after a judge refused to order his return to Minnesota.
A Minnesota legislator is due in court Friday on misdemeanor DWI charges. Republican Rep. Elliott Engen has pleaded not guilty plea to driving under the influence charges stemming from a traffic stop earlier this year. He was asked to appear for a pre-trial hearing in Ramsey County suburban court.
Lawyers for 15 people charged with conspiracy for organizing anti-ICE protests want federal prosecutors to hand over more evidence in the case. Documents that the government already gave the defendants revealed an extensive undercover operation where federal agents infiltrated protest groups at Twin Cities libraries and churches.
Minneapolis businesses requiring dress codes will soon have to write them out and make them visible to the public. The City Council approved the new rule with a unanimous vote Thursday. Supporters of the ordinance say it prevents businesses from using dress codes to discriminate against certain groups, particularly people of color.
