A Somali man arrested in St. Paul is being held at the military prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Adam Abdullah has no criminal record and was living legally in St. Paul after seeking asylum in the U.S. in 2023.

Two of the defendants charged in the brutal killing of a transgender man from Minnesota in upstate New York last year were sentenced Tuesday to life in prison without parole. Family and friends of Sam Nordquist attended the sentencing of Precious Arzuaga and Jennifer Quijano.

Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said police should have filed an extreme risk protection order against the suspect in last week’s mass shooting in downtown Minneapolis. Authorities say the fatal shooting began as a custody exchange between the suspect — Carlton Johnson II — and a former partner at Johnson’s apartment building.

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture is soliciting comments on the socioeconomic impact of large scale dairies in the state. The state’s ag department wants to hear what Minnesotans have to say about large scale dairies. That's after a number of complaints rolled in about another state agency's approval process for a dairy expansion.

The Minnesota State Fair fell just short of last year’s attendance total after a relatively modest Labor Day crowd. Just over 159,000 people came through the gates Monday, the final day of the fair. That was higher than last year’s Labor Day attendance of about 150,000, but well below the nearly 176,000 who attended on the final day two years ago.
