ICE stops publicly sharing location information for thousands of detainees

Immigration and Customs Enforcement has stopped publicly sharing location information for thousands of detainees. Three current and former ICE officials told The Associated Press that on Sept. 15 the agency removed from its website the location information for detainees subject to final deportation orders. In a statement, ICE did not confirm or deny the change.

Bipartisan negotiations continue on a federal proposal to establish guardrails for artificial intelligence. U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar says she is in talks with Senate Majority Leader John Thune of South Dakota. Klobuchar says that's important, given recent warnings that the technology is advancing faster than some developers are comfortable with.

Official estimates suggest nationwide corn yields will decline this year. Some experts say actual yields could be even lower because of drought conditions.

A northern Minnesota man is facing additional charges for allegedly shooting at a firefighting plane this spring. St. Louis County prosecutors charged Daniel Christian Pettit with two felony weapons offenses, including assault. A federal grand jury has now indicted the 49-year-old on charges of damaging an aircraft and discharging a firearm during a violent crime.
