Family of Allison Lussier say they finally feel justice was served

Several competing and collaborating groups are releasing lists of school board candidate endorsements. The conservative Minnesota Parents Alliance has endorsed 75 candidates in 52 Minnesota districts, and teacher unions have endorsed 89 candidates in 27 districts.

After pressuring authorities for more than two and a half years, the family of a Minneapolis Indigenous woman finally feel justice was served. Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty announced Thursday that 36-year old Charles Foss is charged with two counts, including second-degree murder, in the death of Allison Lussier in February of 2024. At the time, the two were romantically involved. A city audit released in April found that police bungled the investigation into the 47-year-old woman’s death from the beginning.

The Department of Justice has notified the state of Minnesota that it plans to send federal election observers to polls around the state. The Justice Department routinely monitors elections. But the presence of federal election observers at polling places during the primaries, including at 40 sites in Minnesota, sparked concern earlier this year. A spokesperson with the department said they plan to have about 1,000 federal observers at polling sites around the country. But it’s not clear how many of those might end up in Minnesota.

The St. Paul City Council presented a plan Wednesday for what they think should happen next as the mayor's office continues planning to close two longstanding encampments. Their resolution advocates for a two-month period of heightened outreach before clearing any camps — unless there’s an immediate safety threat.

St. Paul will soon open a new bridge connecting east side neighborhoods to downtown. The previous version of the Kellogg-Third Street Bridge, which crosses Interstate 94 and nearby railroad track junctions, was built in 1980. But in 2014, a structural analysis discovered problems that caused the city to restrict traffic. The new bridge is expected to fully open on Nov. 15.
