Meet Elisabeth Gawthrop
Elisabeth Gawthrop is a data journalist at APM Research Lab where she uses data to report on and visualize a range of topics, including public health, mental health, education, welfare policy and insurance. Elisabeth also works on internal apps and analytics for the MPR | APM newsrooms.
Before joining the Lab, she was a reporting fellow for Columbia Journalism Investigations and a freelance data journalist and fact checker. She started her career in climate science and communications.
Elisabeth’s reporting has won several awards and distinctions. She has been an Investigative Reporters and Editors Awards and Sacramento Press Club Awards finalist, and has been recognized with a Dateline Award from the Society for Professional Journalists D.C. Chapter and an Award for Excellence in Health Care Journalism from the Association of Health Care Journalists.
Elisabeth has master’s degrees in investigative journalism and in climate and society from Columbia University and a bachelor’s degree in environmental science from Indiana University. Based in Indianapolis, Elisabeth has sung in a choir since 5th grade.
