Harshawn Ratanpal is an MPR News reporter based in the Fargo-Moorhead area.
Before joining MPR, Harshawn was a Report for America corps member and worked at KBIA in Columbia, Missouri, covering the environment and agriculture. His work has also appeared on Marketplace, Harvest Public Media and various outlets of the Mississippi River Basin Ag and Water Desk. Harshawn has also reported on government for the Columbia Missourian and money in politics for OpenSecrets.
He taught journalism at the University of Missouri, where he earned his bachelor’s degrees in journalism and economics. He’s currently pursuing a master’s degree in economics.
Originally from San Diego, Harshawn’s work has appeared in the San Diego Union-Tribune and the Los Angeles Times.
