Meet Stephen Smith
Stephen Smith is a senior editor at MPR News. He co-founded APM Reports, the long-running investigative and documentary series from American Public Media. Stephen has reported on a wide range of issues including human rights, mental health, politics, race and American history.
Stephen’s work has aired on Marketplace, PRX’s Reveal, NPR’s news magazines, the BBC, and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
His awards include the duPont-Columbia University Gold and Silver Batons, the Edward R. Murrow award, the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award, the Gerald Loeb Award, and many others. Stephen is the author of five books on American history. He holds degrees from Macalester College and The University of Chicago, where he was a William Benton Fellow.
