Customers balking at increasing bank fees

Banks have gone from offering simple checking and savings accounts to a wide choice of financial services. But is this greater flexibility more convenient for consumers, or merely more confusing?

Customers are increasingly irritated about bank fees, and that's bad news for banks like TCF Financial Corporation. Revenue from fees at Wayzata-based TCF fell 2.5 percent in 2005 after growing significantly in previous years. The fall contributed to a year-over-year profit decline at TCF in the fourth quarter of last year.
