A man was shot and killed in downtown Minneapolis Friday night with a bullet intended for someone else.
Prosecutors charged Derick Holliday, 21, with murder and attempted murder on Monday in the shooting outside the Block E movie theater. Holliday was allegedly part of a fight that broke out after a movie and was chasing another man when he fired his gun in a nearby parking lot. According to prosecutors, one shot hit Alan Reitter, of Minnetonka, who died a short time later.
It's the second killing in a month in a Minneapolis entertainment district. A West Virginia graduate student was shot and killed in Uptown in March as part of a robbery.
As spring weather coaxes more people out of their homes, Minneapolis business owners worry potential patrons may avoid the city if it gets a reputation for violence in high-profile areas.
Before the charges were announced, MPR's tom Crann talked with Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak about the effect the two shootings could have on businesses in the city.
