(AP) A Republican state representative is among three new judges that Gov. Tim Pawlenty appointed Tuesday to serve in the state's 10th Judicial District.
Rep. Doug Meslow was elected to his White Bear Lake-area House seat in 2002. Also appointed Tuesday were Tammi Frederickson, the Coon Rapids city attorney, and Barry Sullivan, an Anoka attorney. The vacancies were created by the retirements of judges James Morrow, Joseph Quinn and Edward Bearse.
The 10th District includes the counties of Anoka, Washington, Wright, Sherburne, Isanti, Chisago, Pine and Kanabec.
Meslow, 47, had earlier opted against seeking re-election to his House seat. A graduate of the University of Minnesota Law School, Meslow worked for a number of Twin Cities law firms before forming the Meslow and Olson law firm in White Bear Lake in 1997.
Meslow is the third sitting state lawmaker that Pawlenty has promoted to the bench. Earlier this year, he appointed state Rep. Ron Abrams to a 4th Judicial District judgeship, and in 2004 he tapped state Sen. David Knutson for a judgeship in the First Judicial District.
