A look at the Hutchinson billboard campaign

A billboard campaign for gubernatorial candidate Peter Hutchinson seems to imply a poll shows him in the lead in the governor's race. It doesn't.

Twin Cities drivers are noticing a billboard at I-94 and Snelling in St. Paul that appears to show a big advantage in the governor's race for Independence Party Candidate Peter Hutchinson.

The ad says, "Peter Hutchinson for Governor. He's your choice on your issues." It shows Hutchinson at 51 percent, Mike Hatch at 27 percent and Tim Pawlenty at 22 percent. In smaller print it reads "Select a Candidate at mpr.org." Then even smaller print shows: "Select-a-candidate survey results as of October 10, 2006."

MPR's Tom Crann talked with Bob Collins, the managing editor of online for Minnesota Public Radio News, and our Capitol bureau chief Laura McCallum.
