He's kept that lifelong connection, and has become President and CEO of AFS International, an agency promoting international exchange for some 12,000 students a year.
Gerhard Pfanzelter spent time as a teenager with the Bailey family of Elk River. He went on to a career in diplomacy and is now the ambassador to United Nations from his native Austria.
