North Branch teen dies of carbon monoxide poisoning

(AP) - A teenage boy died and his family was hospitalized for the carbon monoxide poisoning they suffered in a North Branch home early Tuesday.

Family members felt sick when they woke up, police said. The new home did not have a phone, so the family went to a nearby gas station to call 911.

Police were first on the scene, and an officer administered oxygen until an ambulance arrived.

Two brothers, ages 11 and 13, and their parents, Mitchell Carlson and Penny Pliscott, were being treated at Hennepin County Medical Center on Tuesday.

Authorities found the body of 17-year-old Andrew D. Carlson, in a lower level of the house. The home did not have a carbon monoxide detector.

Investigators were trying to determine the source of the gas.

North Branch is about 44 miles north of St. Paul.
