Sunday, December 10th marks one year since the death of former Minnesota Senator Eugene McCarthy.

The senator was a witty intellectual with a passion for poetry who represented Minnesota for over several decades in Congress. He's most known for his presidential campaign in 1968, which is the subject of a new Minnesota Public Radio documentary.

The documentary is based on recently-unearthed archival recordings that take us inside the campaign to reveal new insight into McCarthy's personality and the disconnect between the candidate and the people who believed in him.

Minnesota Public Radio's Tim Pugmire talks with Cathy Wurzer about the process of producing the documentary.
