Pawlenty plans a more condensed inaugural

(AP) - Gov. Tim Pawlenty will usher in his second term with a slim slate of inaugural functions, a departure from the days' worth of events he held in 2003.

"We had inaugural week last time, this time we're having inaugural day," Pawlenty said Friday.

Pawlenty and the other statewide officers will be sworn in Jan. 2 at the Fitzgerald Theater, a few blocks down the hill from the state Capitol. The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m.

Earlier in the day, the governor and first lady Mary Pawlenty will be at a worship service at their Eden Prairie church and they'll cap the day off with a dinner featuring music from local band G.B. Leighton and a performance by homegrown comedian Louie Anderson.

State money is used for the official ceremony, but other events rely on private donations.

Tickets for the inaugural dinner at the Hilton in downtown Minneapolis will cost $100 a piece. Pawlenty has an inaugural committee that is accepting donations to defray other costs.
