(AP) - A 21-year-old Chaska man was sentenced to life in prison Friday for his role in the shotgun slaying of his mother last January.
Grant Everson showed no emotion when he got the expected sentence in Carver County Court early Friday.
Everson was convicted of aiding premeditated first-degree murder in the death of Nancy Everson, 52. He also was convicted of aiding the attempted murder of his father, Tom Everson, who escaped out of a bedroom window.
In court Friday, Tom Everson said he doesn't hate or love his son, but at this point he can't forgive him.
Prosecutors claim Grant Everson plotted with a friend to kill his parents and use the life insurance to open a coffee shop and sell marijuana in Amsterdam.
Joel Beckrich pleaded guilty and testified against Everson. Beckrich was previously sentenced to at least 30 years in prison.
