A new rule in Wisconsin will ban the importation of live bait unless it meets strict testing requirements. The rule could have a big impact on Minnesota anglers and the state's bait industry.

This emergency measure is an effort to stem the spread of a fatal fish disease which has caused huge muskie and walleye kills in Lakes Huron, Erie and Ontario and is suspected to be heading west.

MPR's Cathy Wurzer talked with Ron Payer, the fisheries chief for the Department of Natural Resources, about this disease and what it means for Minnesota.
