(AP) - Duluth City Councilor Don Ness and Charlie Bell, who was the runner-up in the mayor's race four years ago, defeated incumbent Herb Bergson in Duluth's mayoral primary on Tuesday and will advance to November's general election.
Bell finished with about 31 percent of the vote, followed by Ness with 24 percent, Bergson with 14 percent and Councilor Greg Gilbert with 13 percent, according to complete but unofficial results. Eleven candidates were on the ballot.
After announcing twice he wouldn't run again, Bergson said three months ago that he wasn't hearing the right things from the other candidates and would seek a second term.
