It's one of the mysteries of modern life. You run into Target for aluminum foil and floor cleaner. Yet you emerge with an art deco toaster and a pair of red lacquer bar stools.

Writer Joel Hoekstra thinks he can explain this curiosity of consumerism. His conclusion: Target is cool.

Hoekstra, managing editor at Minnesota Monthly, talks to reporter Nikki Tundel about the evolution of the Minneapolis-based mega-store.
