Crash kills three near Lakeville

Three people died in a crash on I-35 near Lakeville early Friday morning.

State Patrol spokesman Lt. Mark Peterson said the three victims were all in a car that collided with two commercial vehicles. He said their names would be released Saturday.

The State Patrol said the northbound car struck another vehicle in the rear on I-35 and then crossed the median and continued into southbound traffic, where it was struck by a third vehicle.

The crash happened around 2:15 a.m. and forced the closing of I-35 south of Lakeville, near the Dakota-Scott county line. The freeway was open again by mid-morning.

Roads were wet at the time. The State Patrol will reconstruct the accident as part of its investigation.
