Democrats in South Carolina are casting their votes, essentially choosing between Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton in that state's presidential primary.

State party officials are predicting a record turnout, as lines formed early this morning before polls opened at 7 a.m., local time.

Polls show Obama favored to win the state in large part due to his strong support among black voters, who are expected to comprise more than 50 percent of the electorate.
