Baby burned in hospital fire goes home

(AP) - A baby boy who was burned when flames broke out in his hospital bassinet is home with his family near Elk River.

The boy named Maverick was released from Hennepin County Medical Center on Sunday.

Maverick, whose last name hasn't been released, was treated for burns on nearly 18 percent of his body after flames broke out around his oxygen hood at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids January 22nd. It happened just hours after he was born three weeks premature.

He was transferred in critical condition to HCMC with second- and third-degree burns on his scalp, shoulders, hands and cheeks. He was upgraded to satisfactory condition last week.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
