To help celebrate Minnesota's 150th birthday, one lawmaker wants to create a more contemporary state song.
State Representative Dean Urdahl of Grove City said "Hail Minnesota", technically, is only the state song by resolution, not by statute.
Under his bill "Hail Minnesota" would be elevated to state anthem status and another song would be the state song.
Urdahl envisions the new state song being used in radio and television ads to help promote the state. He said he hopes it would have a catchy tune to make it easy to learn.
