U of M launches emergency procedures web site

The new website collects a variety of information about various emergencies, and lists what qualifies as health emergencies, severe weather, toxic chemical spills and other dangerous situations. It also provides information about how to react to emergencies.

University officials say it's not a destination for information during an emergency, but rather a place to get basic facts about campus policies and procedures.

The site also steers students toward some of the other services the university offers to warn them during emergencies such as cell phone text messages.

About 12,000 students and campus personnel have signed up for text message alerts.
