Rep. Tom Emmer, R-Delano, has tried unsuccessfully for nearly a year to get a Minnesota House committee to look into the union-busting allegations against Attorney General Lori Swanson.

Now he's asking the Bureau of Mediation Services to look into the squabble, as well as allegations of unethical conduct in the office.

Emmer said the recent suspension of Assistant Attorney General Amy Lawler, who was involved in union organizing, increases the need for an investigation.

"There is a big, big management issue that we're having problems with inside the office," he said. "And the issue here is who does the attorney general answer to? If these folks are being mistreated within the office, where do they go?"

Emmer also asked DFL legislative leaders again to hold hearings.

House Majority Leader Tony Sertich said staff lawyers have advised him not to interfere in an ongoing employment law issue.
