Mpls. teen charged in police chase crash that killed a woman

(AP) - Hennepin County prosecutors have charged a 15-year-old Minneapolis boy in the police-chase crash that killed a Minneapolis mother Sunday.

Prosecutors charged the youth on Tuesday with fleeing a police officer, criminal vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of an accident.

A news release says the Hennepin County Attorney's Office is trying to certify the boy as an adult, which would make him eligible for stiffer penalties if convicted.

Officials did not release the name of the youth because he's a juvenile.

Hanna Abukar, 26, died Sunday in Minneapolis when the suspect allegedly smashed a stolen car into her vehicle while fleeing police.

Both children in the car remain hospitalized. Abukar's 6-year-old son has serious head injuries and a broken leg. Her family says the other child's injuries are less severe.
