Feds investigate local firm for military gear shipments

Federal authorities are investigating a Twin Cities company for allegedly trying to ship restricted military equipment overseas without the required registration or licensing.

A federal search warrant says Global Engineering Associates of Spring Park tried to ship a restricted pressure indicator and a military electronics mount to a company in Singapore. The warrant was first reported by the Star Tribune of Minneapolis.

The investigation by the Immigrations and Customs Enforcement office in Minneapolis found that invoices on several shipping bills didn't match the contents of packages sent by the company.

ICE Agent Daniel Schwartz says in a sworn statement that the company's CEO, Martin Leff, is "at the center of a scheme" to export restricted military parts. The company's phone number is no longer in service. Leff didn't immediately return phone messages left by The Associated Press at homes in Minnesota and Florida.
