March was a tough month for retailers, and Target was no exception.

Target Corporation says same-store sales fell 4.4 percent. The company says that was a bit worse than it expected. Target says an earlier Easter is partly to blame.

Analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial had expected only a 2.7 percent drop in same-store sales.

Target says for April, it expects same-store sales to rise in the mid-single-digit range.
