Book awards honors founder of the BookMobile

The Minnesota Book awards Saturday night honored a man well-known for his work as a craftsman and visionary in the book world.

Don Leeper, who started the company BookMobile, received the Sexton Award for Contributions to Minnesota's Book Community.

Elaine Hopkins, Program Coordinator for Friends of the St Paul Public Library and Co-Chair of the Minnesota Book Awards, said it's important to recognize the work of people behind the scenes.

"We think about the finished product but it's usually more about the writer or the publisher. We don't really always think about who put the book together, the actual physical book, who made it possible for that book to get into the hands of readers."

The Sexton Award is presented annually as part of the Minnesota Book Awards.

The ceremony also featured other awards, and a brief tribute to the late Minnesota authors Carol Bly and Jon Hassler.
