One dead in St. Croix River accident

Authorities now say one person has died after a car plunged into the St. Croix River in downtown Stillwater.

Authorities say an adult male who was in the SUV died. Two women from the vehicle are in critical condition, and a third woman is in serious condition. None of them were identified.

Authorities say the car went through thin ice about 10 p.m. Sunday about a quarter-mile north of the Stillwater Lift Bridge, and it's not clear why.

Rescue divers broke the car's windows and pulled the passengers out within five to 10 minutes after receiving a 911 call.
