The summer travel season kicks off with the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, and for the first time in a decade, AAA is forecasting a decrease in travel during the holiday weekend.

Minneapolis AAA spokeswoman Dawn Duffy said the decrease is slight, about one percent.

Duffy said people are reacting to gas prices that are 60 to 70 cents higher than last year at this time. "Gas prices have been out of control for quite some time, and we finally are seeing that our demand for fuel has finally gone down. We have reached that limit where we are changing our habits," Duffy said.

Gas prices continue running at record levels, averaging about $3.68 a gallon in Minnesota.
