The focus of today's annual Minnesota e-Health Summit in Brooklyn Park is a plan to adopt electronic health care records by 2015.

The proposal addresses how all health care providers can use e-health records to improve the quality of care.

"Often the information that a physician or nurse needs at the time a patient shows up isn't available. These records is an effort to improve the quality and safety of care and making sure that information is available at the point of care," said Dr. Bill Brand with the state health department.

Brand said one of the challenges is getting the medical community to change an old way of doing business. He said electronic health records allow a patient to be more informed and engaged in their health care decisions.
