About 40 Minnesota firefighters have returned home after two weeks of battling wildfires in the rugged terrain of northern California.

DNR fire specialist, Jean Bergerson, says the Minnesotans faced special challenges in the Shasta and Trinity sections of California.

"Pretty rugged country. It's very mountainous. Homes, rather than big subdivisions, like you get in southern California are tucked back into the canyons and back up in the mountains. So that all serves a challenge for firefighters trying to protect those residences," Bergerson said.

Bergerson said there were no serious injuries among the Minnesota fire crews. She says one crew is on standby to return to California, if needed.
