It was a disappointing weekend in Beijing for a couple of Olympic athletes with Minnesota ties.

Ali Bernard of New Ulm wrestled her way into the bronze medal match in the 158 lb. weight class of women's wrestling, but lost to a wrestler from Japan.

Nicole Branagh and her playing partner Elaine Youngs lost their beach volleyball match to a Chinese team to finish fifth in the competition. Branagh is a former University of Minnesota volleyball player.

The outcome was better for two other Minnesota atheletes who won a bronze medal in the men's eight rowing event. Micah Boyd and Matt Schnobrich, both from St. Paul, are on the team, which won the gold medal at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece.

Canada won the gold and Great Britain won the silver.
