If you're up for music and a little dancing, come on out to Harriet Island to celebrate Labor Day with artists like Mos Def, Lupe Fiasco, Tom Morello from Rage Against the Machine, and Atmosphere.
Monday's Labor Day festival begins at noon and lasts through the early evening. It's sponsored by a labor union, but anyone can go to the event for $10. The festival will also have a YouTube station, where people can record videos, a blogger lounge, and a family area with story tellers, children's music, and face painters.
But maybe you want to sit still and watch a movie. At the historic Landmark Center in Downtown St. Paul, you can check out the Impact Film Festival, featuring several documentaries during the RNC.
Some of the featured films include FLOW, For Love of Water, which will examine the world's water crisis, and Black List, which will feature portraits of some of today's most influential African-Americans.
Only one of film will play at the Minnesota History Center, 14 Women. It closely follows senators whom explore what it's like to be a woman politician in today's political climate. The screenings are free but you have to reserve tickets online. It's on a first-come, first-serve basis.
And for those of you looking for something even more low-key, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts has an exhibition with a nonpartisan view of the American presidency. Associate curator Jennifer Komar Olivarez says more than 70 objects will feature former presidents and presidential candidates, from signed documents from former presidents to photographs to a marble bust of George Washington.
If none of this sounds fun to you, the Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis will be alive and bustling with 24 hours of performances starting Aug. 30 at 5 p.m. Or you can join the mayors of Minneapolis and St. Paul on a "triathlon" during the first three days of the convention.
