(AP) - The debate in Congress over the financial bailout has scratched tonight's debate in Minnesota's 6th District race.

Michele Bachmann, the Republican incumbent, couldn't make her flight home in time because of House action today on the financial bailout bill. She was meant to attend a candidate forum in Monticello, Minn. beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The forum is sponsored by the Monticello Chamber of Commerce, and chamber officials say it will still take place despite Bachmann's absence.

Bachmann's DFL opponent, Elwyn Tinklenberg, is confirmed for tonight's event, along with two other third party candidates for the office. Candidates for Monticello mayor and city council are also participating.

A spokeswoman for Rep. Bachmann says Bachmann will likely attend a debate on Wednesday in Stillwater.

The House voted to reject the proposed $700 billion bailout package. Bachmann was among those voting to reject.
