A measure that tightens regulations on selling prescription drugs over the Internet is making its way through Congress.
The so-called "Justin's Bill" has passed the U.S. House and is expected to get a vote in the Senate this week.
State Rep., Steve Gottwalt, R-St. Cloud, co-authored the bill in the Minnesota Legislature. He said the federal bill will strengthen what Minnesota is trying to do.
"I think the Minnesota law complements it because states still need to define the patient-provider relationship. That's something that's really unique to state law. And so the federal officials have told us right along that that state definition is important," Gottwalt said.
The bill was named after Justin Pearson, of St. Cloud. He died from an overdose of prescription painkillers he bought over the internet.
