A report shows the number of workplace injuries in Minnesota fell to an all-time low last year.
The annual Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses says about 96,000 workers were hurt on the job in 2007 -- 11,000 fewer than the year before.
State Department of Labor and Industry Commissioner, Steve Sviggum, said the rate of workplace incidents also declined dramatically.
"And a year ago it was 5.1 workers per 100 full-time workers to now 4.6 cases per 100 full-time workers. So, certainly a rather significant drop," Sviggum said.
Sviggum attributes the drop to new technology and equipment, businesses putting significant resources toward workplace safety, and better oversight by OSHA.
Injury and illness records were collected from about 5,100 Minnesota employers.
