Mayors prescribe infrastructure projects

St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman said he hopes building a high speed rail link between his city and Chicago will be a major priority, as the incoming president and Congress look at infrastructure funding.

Coleman has submitted a list of projects to the federal government that could be accelerated and completed within the next couple of years if funding were made available.

Other mayors from around the country are meeting in Washington Monday to look at other infrastructure projects in need of funds. They say investing in infrastructure will create needed jobs and help the economy.

Mayor Coleman said he is hopeful that President elect Barack Obama and congress will be able to pass an economic stimulus package.

"It would take certainly a very concerted effort but i think the need for jobs right now, the need to invest and to try to stimulate the economy is critical. I think it's the right move I think it's the right direction I hope the congress and the incoming president are able to put something together for cities across America," Coleman said.

Coleman said also high on his list are repairs to sewers, streets and bridges.
