Annandale schools want to borrow $45 million

The Annandale School District will ask voters Tuesday to approve more than $45 million in construction spending.

The bond would raise money for a new pre-K through 8 school, along with a new athletic complex and high school addition.

Superintendent Steve Niklaus says he knows property tax increases are a tough sell in bad economies, but he also says there are benefits. For one, the project could potentially cost less.

"We know that bidding for projects like this would be very competitive, which then would translate to pricing being quite low - probably lower than what would have been available in the past few years. So, time will tell," Niklaus said.

If approved, property taxes on a $200,000 home would increase by 300 dollars a year.
