Minn. gets $3M federal grant to help neediest

Minnesota will receive more than $3.1 million in federal funds to subsidize food and shelter programs.

U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar said Saturday the money will help needy families get through these tough times.

The money comes from the Department of Homeland Security through the Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA. The agency runs the Emergency Food and Shelter program, which distributes funds to social-service agencies.

The money can be used to provide services to homeless people and to assist those struggling to pay rent and utility bills.
