MSP ready for the holiday rush

Officials at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport say they are prepared for the holiday travel rush.

The weekend's storm stranded at least 500 passengers, as heavy snow forced flight cancellations.

The most affected routes were between MSP and Chicago and cities on the East Coast, which were also experiencing winter storms.

Metropolitan Airports Commission spokesman Patrick Hogan said if the weather stays dry, this week's holiday travel should not be too bad.

"The weather looks like it's going to cooperate so they should be able to get on their way and get to their destination. It will be a busy day, but one thing about Christmas is that people tend to leave on a lot of different days of the week it's not all on one day so it should be very manageable," Hogan said.

Hogan said winds were not as strong as officials feared, helping to get cancelled flights back on schedule.
