Stretch of I-494 closed this weekend

Traffic could be slowed down this weekend in the south metro as a stretch of I-494 in Bloomington and Richfield will be closed for a construction project.

The freeway is being shut down between Cedar Ave. and I-35W at 9 p.m. Friday, as crews demolish the Lyndale Ave. bridge over 494.

MnDOT says the posted detour includes a stretch of Crosstown Highway 62 that is under construction. So, motorists are advised to use alternate routes to avoid delays.

As of Friday morning, Lyndale Ave. adjacent to the bridge construction site is closing in both directions until the new bridge opens in November.

I-494 will reopen in time for the Monday morning rush hour.
