Andersen Corp. announces 160 layoffs
Window and door marker Andersen Corp. says that another 160 employees at its Bayport plant have been laid off due to the deteriorating housing market.
The company says in a Friday news release that the employees were told to expect to be out for at least the first quarter of 2009. Market conditions will dictate when they are recalled.
The Bayport-based company says the decision was made because the housing market has become even weaker than most economist had forecast.
Earlier this month, Andersen announced that it was permanently reducing its workforce by 50 employees and temporarily laying off about 400 workers.
Friday's announcement brings the temporarly layoffs for January to 560.
Bayport is along the Minnesota-Wisconsin border, about 20 miles east of St. Paul.
