This weekend, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde will stalk the stage of the Park Square Theater in St. Paul. 

Twin Cities playwright Jeffrey Hatcher adapted Robert Louis Stevenson's classic tale of the man of science who releases his inner evil by drinking a potion. 

Hatcher told Minnesota Public Radio's Euan Kerr he had some ideas about taking the story forward in new ways for audience members.

The play has been nominated for an Edgar Award for Best Play by the Mystery Writers of America. Hatcher says he's wanted to win an Edgar ever since he saw one on the mantelpiece of Laurence Olivier's character in "Sleuth."

Also, Hatcher's film "The Duchess" was nominated this week for Academy Awards in art direction and costume design. As a screenwriter, Hatcher  admits he can't take any credit for that.
