Trial begins for man charged in RNC molotov case

A Texas man charged with making explosives for the Republican National Convention goes on trial Monday in federal court.

David McKay is accused of assembling Molotov cocktails along with another man from Austin, Texas. Bradley Crowder admitted earlier this month as part of a plea bargain that he helped build the firebombs.

McKay's attorney, Jeff DeGree, said he plans to argue that activist and FBI informant Brandon Darby provoked his client into committing illegal activities. Degree described Darby as "unstable" and "unreliable," and that he made his client a "soldier in his army."

Federal officials say McKay and Crowder planned to hurl the explosives at police cars during the RNC, last September in St. Paul.
