As the recount trial continues in Minnesota, the two candidates hoping to win Minnesota's senate seat are headed to Washington today.
A spokeswoman for Al Franken said Franken will be in Washington to prepare for joining the Senate.
She said Franken will meet with Senate staffers and former staffers and officials with the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. Franken will return to Minnesota on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Republican Norm Coleman will reportedly attend a fundraiser tonight in Washington. The National Republican Senatorial Committee is hosting the fundraiser to help Coleman with his election contest.
Secretary of State Mark Ritchie is also scheduled to release his plan for changing the state's election system.
He oversaw the recount in Minnesota's Senate race and has met with local elections officials to see how the system can be improved.
