Crash kills 1, closes portion of major Minneapolis street

(AP) - Police in Minneapolis say a crash has killed one person and closed part of a major street.

The two-car accident happened on the city's south side on Hiawatha Avenue at 26th Street.

Officers said it appeared both vehicles were going south on Hiawatha, with one stopped at a red light when it was hit from behind. The car caught fire and the person inside died.

Police say the driver of the other car is being tested for alcohol.

A section of Hiawatha was expected to remain closed through the Thursday morning rush hour. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
